Matthew Shear first garnered attention for his role as Tony in Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America (2015), and later reunited with Baumbach on Marriage Story (2019). Shear also starred alongside Lakeith Stanfield in the A24 drama Crown Heights (2017) and played Detective Lucius Isaacson in TNT’s period crime series The Alienist. In 2025, Shear took on a compelling new role in Fantasy Life, a dramedy he wrote and directed that explores the emotional highs and lows of pro sports.
